Here is the first of many games that I created, with inspiration from Debbie Miller's new book on Math Workstations.

I also included the Math Talk card to help students engage in more math language when working together.

Love it! I am looking for math and reading websites. I am putting together a sheet to give parents for the summer. If you have any great websites / links please leave a comment at my blog and I will be posting the sheet with them all. Thanks http://petersonsprimarypeeps.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI found a great site to give parents to help students with basic facts. It includes grade levels and tons of games to reinforce these activities. We are distributing this web address school wide: www.math-games-and-activities-at-home.com
DeleteOooooh, thank you! I just started the book tonight (and it was my last day of school - NERD ALERT!!!) and am so excited for the blog party with this book!
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm getting excited for our book study! I can NOT wait to see what FAB.U.LOUS ideas you have in store!

We introduce 10 Frames in kindergarten and this would be a great game. Since you included 5 different colors they could even play in groups around the table! {I love math centers so anything that 4 kids can play at once is perfect in my book.} :)

I am new to all this, but LOVED the book. Why would you give them ten frames with dots already on them instead of ten frames and chips?
ReplyDeleteYour game is awesome! I have added it to our Singapore Math curriculum. Thanks a million!
ReplyDeleteGiving them the dots helps them recognize the number and start to see patterns and ways to make certain numbers. They then use this as a skill for addition and subtraction as they learn more number concepts. They can also see that 5 dots and 5 blanks will make 10. Hope I make sense. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! Thanks so much!!
ReplyDeleteLesson Plan Diva
Thanks for this. This summer I followed the Math Work Stations discussions and I love the math talk idea. I can't wait to use this in my classroom.
