Direct Instruction has developed a bad reputation over the past decade.  I actually really like it as a phonics component in my classroom.  I have worked with at-risk children, with only a handful that actually come to school with readiness skills.  Direct Instruction provides teachers with a tool that promotes high repetition in a safe environment.  I am not a teacher that only does "DI" in my room.  It is strictly a phonics component during my reading workshop.  Until I find something that teaches phonics in a systematic and repetitious way better than Direct Instruction, I am using the best way I know how and that is with DI.

Here are some of the resources that I have made and used with my classes over the last few years.  Check back often.  As I make them, I will share them with everyone.
